Getting Started with Therapy
What can I expect in my first therapy session?
Your first session is a chance to connect, share what brings you to therapy, and discuss your goals. We’ll explore current challenges and identify the type of support that fits your needs. This is a slow, safe introduction — perfect for clients seeking trauma-informed therapy in Toronto or virtual support across Canada.
How do I know if therapy is right for me?
If you feel stuck, stressed, anxious, or overwhelmed, therapy can help. You don’t need to be in crisis. InteroCare offers individualized, somatic-informed sessions for adults, teens, couples, and families navigating burnout, anxiety, trauma, or life transitions.
What should I bring or prepare for my first appointment?
There’s nothing you need to prepare — just yourself. Many clients reflect on challenges or what they’d like to change. Safety, comfort, and pacing are the focus. Together, we create a space where therapy feels approachable and effective.
Somatic & Talk Therapy
What is somatic therapy, and how is it different from traditional talk therapy?
Somatic therapy integrates body awareness with evidence-based psychotherapy. We explore your thoughts, emotions, and how your body responds to stress, trauma, and relational patterns. This approach builds emotional regulation, nervous system resilience, and practical tools for everyday life.
How does somatic therapy help with trauma, anxiety, or burnout?
Trauma, anxiety, and burnout often show up in the body as tension, hypervigilance, or emotional overwhelm. Somatic therapy helps you safely notice and release these patterns. Over time, symptoms like anxiety, insomnia, or emotional dysregulation can decrease, while self-awareness and resilience increase.
Do I need to be comfortable with body-based work to start?
No prior experience is needed. Somatic therapy moves at your pace. You always have choice and agency, starting with gentle awareness and building toward deeper nervous system work as you feel ready.
Family & Couples Therapy
What happens in family therapy?
Family therapy addresses relational dynamics, communication challenges, and patterns that impact connection. Sessions help families improve understanding, reduce conflict, and strengthen emotional safety — ideal for families navigating stress, chronic health challenges, or relational strain.
Can I start therapy even if my partner or family isn’t ready?
Yes. Individual therapy can support you in managing relationship or family stress, even if others aren’t participating. Often, positive changes in one person ripple throughout the system, improving overall family or couple dynamics.
Do you provide couples therapy?
Yes. Trauma-informed couples therapy helps partners deepen connection, improve communication, and manage conflict. Sessions explore attachment styles, emotional regulation, and relational patterns to create a supportive, resilient partnership.

Your Comfort in the Process
I’ve tried therapy before. What makes this different?
InteroCare’s approach is relational, trauma-informed, and integrative. Therapy moves at your pace, with attention to safety, nervous system regulation, and real-life skills to help teens, adults, couples, and families create lasting change.
I’m nervous about starting therapy. What if I don’t know where to begin?
It’s normal to feel nervous. Therapy is about exploring emotions, nervous system responses, and patterns over time. You don’t need to have everything figured out — we’ll move gently and safely.
Can therapy feel uncomfortable or challenging at times?
Yes. Trauma-informed and somatic therapy can bring up difficult emotions or memories. This is a natural stage of healing. With pacing, guidance, and nervous system support, these moments often lead to insight, emotional regulation, and long-term resilience.
What is trauma-informed psychotherapy?
Trauma-informed psychotherapy integrates somatic therapy, relational approaches, and cognitive tools to help clients navigate trauma, anxiety, caregiver stress, cancer-related challenges, and life transitions safely and effectively.
How is my privacy protected?
