The "Freeze" State: How to Gently Move Out of Burnout
Using micro-movements to thaw a system stuck in functional freeze.
🛋️ Stuck in the “Blahs”?
Burnout can feel like a heavy fog. In somatic therapy, this is often understood as a freeze state, when your nervous system slows things down to protect you from overwhelm.
At Interocare, we focus on helping you shift out of this state gently, without adding more pressure to an already taxed system.
⚡ How to Thaw Gently
When you’re in a freeze state, even small actions can feel like too much. These micro-movements can help you begin to reconnect:
• The Slow Neck Roll: Very slowly move your head from side to side. This can help engage pathways that signal safety to your system.
• Touch Your Limbs: Gently squeeze your arms or legs. This can support a sense of presence and connection to your body.
• Orienting: Slowly look around the room and name three colours you see. This helps bring your awareness out of the internal “fog” and into the present moment.
✨ The Interocare Approach
Thawing burnout isn’t about pushing through. It’s about noticing your body’s cues and moving at a pace that feels manageable and supportive.
📍 I offer somatic, trauma-informed therapy in Toronto’s west end and online across Canada, supporting burnout, stress, and nervous system regulation.
If this feels familiar, your system may be asking for something different.
